Christmas celebrations at Hotel de L’Alpage

21 Nov 2024

In the Tateshina Highlands, you can find yourself amongst beautiful nature with various activities available throughout the year. However, during the Christmas season, the backdrop of a snow-covered Mt. Tateshina and the Yatsugatake Mountains, bathed in the light of sunrise and sunset, makes a breathtakingly beautiful scenery only seen during the winter season. The daytime landscape is pure and stunning, while the nighttime takes on an enchanting atmosphere, making you feel as if you are in a quaint European village.

Around the hotel, popular winter activities include snowshoe trekking and cross-country skiing. A short drive away, you will find several ski resorts, making it easy to enjoy winter-specific activities. For more information on winter activity spots, please refer to the “Travel around Japan Guide.”

Decorations that are popular in France during the Christmas holidays – Crèche de Noël

A “crèche de Noël” is a display featuring figurines of people and animals that recreates the Nativity scene of Jesus Christ’s birth, and is typically set up during Christmas. The inclusion of oxen and donkeys refers to the tradition that Jesus was born in a stable. This custom is particularly well known in regions such as Provence in southern France and Naples in Italy. Similar to the way hina dolls are displayed in Japan, these nativity scenes are often set up in churches or a part of the home starting in early December.

We will be decorating various parts of the hotel to enhance the Christmas spirit for the season. Of course, a “crèche de Noël” is also on display inside the hotel, so please take a moment to view it when you visit.

At the hotel, we hope you take the time to relax with a warm drink in hand, settle into a comfortable chair, and enjoy the warmth of the interior while admiring paintings or immersing yourself in your favorite book.

Christmas dinner at Hotel de L’Alpage

We will be offering a special dinner for a limited time from Saturday, December 21 to Wednesday, December 25, to make your Christmas even more enjoyable. We warmly welcome you to spend an exceptional evening with us.

The special dinner, supervised by Chef Keiji Azuma and inspired by the culinary delights and traditions of France, features a seven-course meal meticulously prepared with fresh local ingredients from Nagano and select French ingredients. After the meal, we will offer a special dessert exclusive to the Christmas season through a dessert wagon service.

As we celebrate our first Christmas in 2024, there may be a chance to experience a romantic white Christmas, as snow is somewhat common and heavy during winter at Tateshina. Our entire staff is committed to providing heartfelt hospitality to our guests so that you can enjoy a memorable time while staying at our hotel.

Experience “refined luxury” surrounded by the rich nature and serenity of Tateshina in winter.
